Alnico Magnets

Alnico Magnets Overview

Alnico magnetic material is an alloy of aluminum-nickel-cobalt which possesses an excellent temperature stability and high residual induction. However, its low coercive force limits its applications in many cases. Casting and sintering are two major processes used to manufacture the Alnico magnets.

Key Advantages

Sintered Alnico Magnets:
  • Excellent temperature stability
  • Strong corrosion resistance
  • The maximum working temperature is up to 500°c
  • Fine grain
  • Compact crystal.
  • Excellent magnetic consistence and evenness.
  • Suitable for small volume and complex shape magnets.
Cast Alnico Magnets:
  • Excellent temperature stability
  • Strong corrosion resistance
  • The maximum working temperature is up to 500°c
  • Excellent capacity
  • High density and magnetic properties
  • Shorter production lead time
  • Temperature factor of Br is the smallest among all the permanent magnets
  • Cast Alnico magnets can be produced in relatively complex shapes
  • Tooling for cast Alnico magnets is relatively low, since sand molds are generally used for the casting process.

Quick Leads

  • Density - 7.34 g/cm3
  • Manufacturing process - casting (most common), or sintering.
  • Various shapes- blocks, bars, discs, rings, horseshoes, cylinders, etc.
  • Wide range of grades- from about 0105 to 0519. (First 2 digits represent BH.max, and second two digits represent Intrinsic Coercivity, Hci.)
  • Saturation magnetizing field required - about 5kOe.
