Recently, BYD, a well-known automobile manufacturer in China, obtained a patent for rare earth permanent magnets, and BYD’s rare earth permanent magnet patent reduces the content of dysprosium and/or terbium in the magnet, thereby reducing the production cost of the magnet, but improving the coercivity and heat resistance of the magnet.
The rare earth permanent magnet material is a kind of magnetic material made by the alloy composed of samarium, neodymium mixed rare earth metal, and transition metal (such as cobalt, iron, etc.), pressed and sintered by powder metallurgy, and magnetized by a magnetic field. It is currently known as a permanent magnet material with the highest comprehensive performance. It has a much better performance than that of the ferrite magnets and AlNiCo magnets, and twice the performance of the platinum-cobalt alloys.
Therefore, it is widely used in electronic technology communications, household appliances, vehicles, and medical equipment.
However, in recent years, with the rapid development of the new energy automobile industry, the demand for rare earth permanent magnet materials has also increased. In addition, the requirements for magnets in automobiles are gradually increasing, that is, magnets are required to work stably in a high-temperature environment. Therefore, this requires magnets to have a high coercivity and excellent heat resistance.
The method of improving the coercivity of the traditional technology is mainly to add a certain amount of heavy rare earth elements, but this will inevitably cause problems of remanence, reduction of magnetic energy product, and increase of the cost. In order to solve the above-mentioned shortcomings, BYD published a patent for “a rare earth permanent magnet and its preparation method”.
